No Monday playlist today. Instead, you should favorite The Aadam Jacobs Collection at the Live Music Archive and start digging.
Aadam Jacobs started recording concerts on cassette in 1984. He continued recording across four decades, amassing 10,000 recordings that are being digitized and added to The Internet Archive. The collection includes Nirvana's first live show, recorded July 8, 1989. The sound quality of this set is unbelievable, both in terms of a shockingly fully realized performance, as well as the sound of the cassette itself. This isn't a crumbling collection of damaged tape. These recordings are all diamonds. I'm listening to a 1997 Pavement set as I write these words, and it's a set worth setting to repeat and playing through the night.
The collection isn't exclusively filled with indie stalwarts either. You'll find some truly esoteric shit here, like a five-minute Rhythm Chicken set. Overwhelmed by choice? Click the Shows on this Day in Aadam Jacobs Collection History at the top of the collection and start there. Or how about some of my initial listens?
